In a recent report, the United States Census Bureau’s Household Pulse Survey (published in April 2021), cited these statistics as being representative of the diversity of U.S. homeschoolers.
Homeschooling is quickly growing in popularity among minorities. About 41% of homeschool families are non- white/non-Hispanic (i.e., not white/Anglo).
Homeschooling rates have increased most dramatically among Black students, with the proportion of Black home- schoolers increasing from 3.3% in late spring to 16.1% in the fall of 2020.
African American parents most frequently cite the following motivations for their decision to homeschool: (1) to protect their children, especially sons, from institutional racism and stereotyping and (2) to give their children a sense of their historic cultural roots.
